i need to post more!

i am going to do another post soon.  i promise.  sorry, i've neglected you, blog.  it's a lot harder to blog with an ipad because i can't upload pictures.  so i have to wait until i'm actually using a real computer.  so little time, so much to do...

here is one of my most recent creations.  it is hanging in my bathroom above the toilet. haha. i don't know if it's done yet, i haven't decided.

slippers

remember my knitting post?  i asked you guys what you thought i was making?!?!?  i made the warmest wool slippers!

what do you think?  I am so pleased with them.  it is only the second thing i've ever knitted. i knit a scarf about 4 years ago for the first time.  but these were even easier!

all you have to do is knit 7 squares (you don't even have to purl stitch) and fold it a certain way, throw them in the washer to felt them.  and viola! slippers!

here is the pattern for the slippers and a great video tutorial on how to fold them up to form the slippers.  and i don't know what i would've done without my mamaw giving me advice on these!

tips
-i used patton's wool yarn because it was on sale at joanns (make sure you get wool yarn)!
-i used a size 11 needle.
-i only did 15 stitches across and 20 rows for a size 8-9 shoe.
-the washers in my complex are front loading washers so i had to felt them twice.

*this was a fun and great for a beginner project of you are wanting to learn to knit.  youtube has some fantastic videos to help you out.*

pumpkin

i carved a pumpkin this year.  hoot hoot! here is the website i got the template from.  just click through the green arrow to find it.  i changed it up a bit because i'm not as talented as the template. haha.

my tools from the dollar store.  the gut scooper broke, as you can see.

in the dark... ooooooo

what you would see if you came to my house

my star on the side.

more headbands

i'm obsessed with headbands.  i wear them almost everyday.  i made a few more a couple of weeks ago.  and tonight around midnight i decided to take pictures.  so please disregard the lack of make up and the awfulness of my hair.  i studied at Barnes today, so my hair was actually really cute in an awesome fishtail braid (another one of my latest hair obsessions) but unfortunately at this hour i wasn't about to redo my hair and make up. and if i didn't take photos now, it would've never happened.  so off we go,  no judging...

don't worry i don't ever wear two at the same time... at least not yet...

i'm just now realizing i need to do something to those eyebrows!!! gahhh!

mean mug? give me a break, i'm old and it's past midnight.

like 'em? be careful with your answer... it might be your christmas gift.

hippie headbands.

i'm really digging hippie headbands right now.  i wear them with just a plain ponytail, but my favorite is to actually wear it like a hippie!  :)  i made this one the other day!  sooo simple. do you like?

song of songs 4:7

If you come to our house and use our bathroom, you will see this right next to the mirror!  How easy is it to look into the bathroom mirror and pick out every. one. of. your. FLAWS.?  Well when you look in our mirror, you'll be reminded of what a gem you are!

Song of Songs 4:7

(I wanted to put the verse in the left bottom corner, but i couldn't write that small.  haha.  also, do you like how the writing starts going crooked?  haha!  hey i'm the creator, i can judge it, right?)

This is also a start on my new yellow and gray bathroom that i am dreaming up!

new bathroom *dreams*

okay so i'm really digging the color yellow right now.  yellow and grey for house decor stuff.  especially after looking at this living room!!!! and i've been dreaming about redoing our bathroom, maybe if i ever find a job here in Eugene! :)

but here are some ideas and things that i found that i really l/o/v/e:

first of all look at this bathroom from Elle Apparel blog.  She has a tutorial for an anthro shower curtain, but i don't think i have the patience to do it or the money to buy one from anthro!  anyway check out her CUTE bathroom here.

so here is what i'm looking to get some day...

the yellow one, of course!

scrubbies

my mamaw taught me how to make these scrubbies over christmas break.  i made a ton of them and ended up giving them all as presents except for the one that i kept for myself.  i use it everyday probably 15 times a day, so you can imagine how nasty it has gotten.  so i decided to make myself a couple more.  they are quick and easy and i LOVE the way they clean.  let me know if you want the crochet pattern.  they are made from fabric netting cut into 2 inch strips and rolled into a ball of 'yarn'.

4.16.2011

sewing space

i got a place for my sewing machine and serger.  unfortunately, it is right next to the kitchen table, but at least it's not on the kitchen table like it normally is.  paul is especially thankful for that.  haha!  paul's grandma used to be quite the sewer.  sadly, because of her Huntington's disease, she is not able to sew anymore.  Grandpa Shenk was going to just throw these beautiful treasures in the dump.  Cyndi, my mother-in-law thankfully thought of me and my kitchen table sewing space!  They are just soooo beautiful and i am soo so so so thankful!  Since we are moving in 4 weeks, I haven't really made the drawers my space yet.  It's a bit pointless to unload all of my stuff just to box it back up again!  Anyway, what do you think?  you can come and join me in my little space any time that you would like!

teach me

i really want to make this.  can someone show me how?

4.03.2011

around my house.

i'm gaining an owl collection on my dresser.  i love it.

i bought the one on the left at a fair trade show.  it's from an all female school in indonesia.  the middle one is from travis! it's swarovski.  he bought it for me when he was in austria.  and the last is an antique cast iron owl from my papaw!  i love them all.

the first thing i ever embroidered is in our bedroom. our landlord won't let us hang anything on the wall.  so i wanted something there that i could hang from thumb tacks.  it's better than nothing i guess.  haha!

and if anyone wants to get me the rest of the harry potter books for christmas or just because they love me, here are the 3 i have (books 5-7)!  but don't think that i haven't read them all.  i have and i LOVE them.  i also really really REALLY want the other movies.  the only one i own is the 6th one. 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' movie.

yarn wreath

alrighty ya'll.  i need your advice.

First of all, feast your eyes on these pretties.  yarn wreaths found  via google image search. i'm going to replicate one.

i am making a yarn wreath for spring!  i want it to be bright.  here is the color of yarn i chose.

it's a pretty yellow!  the yarn was on sale at joanns.  did you know that vana white had a yarn line?!?  me either.  that, however is not the point of this post.  the advice i need... what color flowers should i make with this purdy lookin' yarn?

blue-ish? i don't think it's too michigan like.

purple-ish?

OR

pink-ish?

i think all 3 colors is a bit much.

HELP!

7.08.2010

wreath

i've officially been a VEGAN for a week.  lost 3 pounds.  hopefully my cholesterol has dropped about 50 points. more on that subject later.... i've actually really enjoyed being so healthy.

here is my most recent creation. do you like it?  i found the idea off of a blog, and now of course i don't remember which blog.  i used the tutorial... it's made from lima beans

and don't worry marysville painter girls... i did not paint this door... it was this way before paul moved in!

more on life as a vegan next time!

garage sale finds

yes... garage sale season! found a killer of a deal.  i forgot to take a before picture... it was a brown wooden shelf thingy.  i just really like the design and it looks really cool in my hallway beside all of my black & white pictures and frames! adds architecture, i guess.  it is amazing what a little bit of black spray paint will do!  :)

p.s.  does anyone have a clever blog title idea for me?  the dawn of dawson? the curious case of kylee dawson? haha j/k.   i'm trying to think of one... i just didn't want my middle name in my title since my first and last name are the website... you  know?  and since i have 9 million interests, it's not like i can name myself a cooking blog like 'pinch my salt' or a sewing blog like 'made'.  suggestions VERY  welcome.

4.09.2010

procrastination.

i should be studying for my grade determining chemistry exam next week.  but instead...

when i was talking to amanda this morning about how much we both want to be crafty and make our own clothes, home decor... etc.  i decided to make some ear rings that i saw on a random blog.

here was my inspiration:

these are from nordstrom:

and anthropologie has like a million pairs that i want, but here is my current favorite:

aren't they beautiful??

so i went to the craft store and bought the earing (the back and the pin/tac type piece that goes in your ear), a hot glue gun, and buttons!!

pretty...

miss annie oakley right here.

the most similar button that i could find like the cute ones from nordstrom- no diamonds of course.

and the final product....

ta da!

my first craft, all by myself :)  hey, beauty is within the eye of the beholder...  i like them.

i miss ohio already. come see the dawsons!  off to being productive now... hopefully.
